The African Association of International Law (AAIL) and the European Society of International Law (ESIL), in collaboration with the Netherlands Ministry of Security and Justice and the American Society of International Law (ASIL), held a joint symposium on legal aspects of migration at The Hague on 14 October 2016.
The event brought together African and European experts on international migration to discuss and proffer solutions to some of the challenges facing migration between Africa and Europe. The participants were drawn from academia, policy makers, civil society, and international organizations working in the field of migration. The discussion analyzed a range of issues including foundational issues on international migration; drivers of irregular migration; the adequacy of the current legal framework on migration; and the European Union’s policies on migration.
